👗 We're Hosting a Clothing Swap for America Recycles Day!

Updated: Nov 20, 2025

Rewear. Refresh. Reimagine.

When most people think about recycling, they picture bottles, cans and paper, but what about our clothes?

This America Recycles Day, we’re taking recycling beyond the bin by hosting Dana Point’s first-ever Clothing Swap, a fun, meaningful way to tackle one of the biggest hidden polluters: the fashion industry!

🌍♻️ Why a Clothing Swap Matters

A clothing swap isn’t just about refreshing your closet, it’s about rethinking our relationship with consumption and waste. The fast fashion industry has quietly become one of the largest contributors to global pollution, outpacing even aviation and shipping in carbon emissions.

Here’s Why it Matters:

  • 👚 Clothing Waste Crisis: Americans throw away 11 million tons of textiles every year, most ending up in landfills where they can take decades to decompose.

  • 🏭 Overproduction Problem: The world produces 100 billion garments annually — far more than we could ever wear. Experts estimate that even if we stopped producing

new clothes today, there would still be enough to clothe the next five generations.

  • 💧 Environmental Footprint: The fashion industry is responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions and uses massive amounts of water. To put it in perspective: producing one cotton T-shirt can require 2,700 liters of water, enough for one person to drink for 2.5 years!

♻️ Why America Recycles Day Is the Perfect Time

America Recycles Day (November 15) is all about rethinking waste and encouraging communities to make more sustainable choices. While recycling is vital, reuse is even more impactful and that’s exactly what a clothing swap celebrates.

By swapping instead of shopping, we’re cutting down on demand for new production, saving resources and keeping perfectly good clothes out of the landfill. It’s sustainability that feels good, looks good and builds community.

💫 The Ripple Effect of Swapping

By hosting a clothing swap, we’re not just trading clothes we’re:

✨ Reducing waste headed to landfills

✨ Extending the life cycle of clothes already made

✨ Inspiring community members to rethink how we shop and dress

✨ Showing that reuse is just as powerful as recycling

And the best part? Everyone walks away with something new-to-them — no waste, no guilt!
